From our friends at Highline High School:

Hello Burien and beyond!
Two months ago, Highline High School Key Club held their second annual Homelessness Care Project; and it was a huge success! Over the course of a month and a half, the necessities drive collected 2,410 items ranging from garments, to hygiene products, to food. Donations have been delivered to the Seattle Union Gospel Mission, whose volunteers will distribute them to people in need.
If you are unfamiliar with this necessities drive, it is a service project put on by the local Key Club in hopes of helping their community. Often times we take our small snacks and comforting clothes for granted, as others struggle to stay warm and fed during the cold winter months. Our officer board recognized this problem and wanted to help out, which led to the creation of this project. In 2016, the first time this project ran, it collected 1,561 donations that were also delivered to and distributed by the Seattle Gospel Mission.
This year, Highline Key Club set goals to expand the project by placing more donation boxes throughout the community and promoting the project through various platforms. This proved to be successful, as the project gathered 849 more items. After recollecting the boxes of donations, club members gathered to write personal messages on each of the items. When someone receives one of our donations, they will be greeted by a positive affirmation.
On behalf of Highline High School Key Club, thank you for donating necessity items to our drive. This project would not have been successful without your support, so thank you again for assisting Highline Key Club serve our community.
Special thanks to Burien Community Center, Camp Schoenwald, Cedarhurst Elementary, Gregory Heights Elementary, Highline Church, Highline High School, and Seahurst Elementary for taking in our donations boxes and promoting our cause.
