The community is invited to meet the candidates for the open position on the Highline School Board at a meet and greet event on Thursday, Feb. 8.
Four candidates submitted applications to replace school board member Michael Spear, who stepped down from the board in January. Mr. Spear recently purchased a home outside Highline boundaries and is no longer eligible to serve.
The open position is for Director Seat #5, which serves neighborhoods in the SeaTac, Des Moines and Normandy Park communities. Below is a list of the four candidates the community will meet on February 8.

  • Elizabeth Bishop
“I have the time and the passion to serve the community; and am excited to help Highline continue to place our best foot forward as we move towards improving policies, instruction, learning, and promoting a nurturing environment.”
  • Faizah Bradford
“My contribution will help our school board and district in building on what is working, as well as seeking opportunities to question and challenge our practices to ensure equity and educational excellence for ALL.”
  • Kalimar Petitt
“I am someone who has tremendous drive and integrity. Being a parent of three elementary students in the Highline School District also adds a vested interest in the success of the District.”
  • Patrice Thorell
“If selected to fill the role as the Highline School Board Director for District 5, I will dedicate my passion, time and energy to advocate for the success of our Highline students and schools, for the continued betterment of our greater Highline community.”

Applications are being reviewed by the School Board. The Board will announce a finalist at the February 21 School Board meeting. The nominee will take office on March 2.
